10:21 pm: Singers!
[Apologies to people of the geographically distant, non-singing or disinterested variety]

A group of lovely people who I sing with are doing carols in the craft market opposite Trinity College in Cambridge on Saturday lunchtime, probably 11:30-13:00-ish. This year we are very short on people, particularly sopranos and altos. Anyone feel like coming along and helping out? It would be mostly pretty standard green book stuff. It is for charidee and all, too.

There will definitely be Away in a manger with the lesser-known spooky tune, if that helps to sway anyone's decision.

I think that may be the first time I've ever heard anyone say they'll be short of altos.

Don't think I can make it, unfortunately, (getting myself and the Unwieldy Luggage from Wallington to St Pancras by 3 pm via Cambridge probably not viable) but I hope you get lots of people.

Bizarrely, I have been in several groups of singers with a surfeit of tenors, who have terrible trouble getting sopranos and altos to come along. Possibly that's where all the tenors everyone else is looking for are hiding!

I REALLY wish I could be there, but I will be singing in a different charity carols thing at almost exactly the same time, in the other place, with a group which is very short of tenors and basses.

Geography sucks. :(

Ours will be short of sopranos and tenors*…

Which one is the lesser known spooky tune? Is it the one on page 3 of the green book?

*And also basses if my throat doesn't get better before then

Yup, that's the one. I like it *much* better than the other tune (although I also get really confused if called on to sing them one after the other...)

I might be able to manage it -- I'm a rather poor alto these days, but after being a church musician since I was six or so, carols are at least something I know. (Also, I really miss being involved in Christmas services since the last church kicked us out :-( )

I've had galloping insomnia for the last few weeks, though, so if sleep intervenes, I have to let it take priority; I'll try to get there if I'm conscious, though (and if the sore throat that seems to be coming on is under control).

It'd be wonderful to have you if you're up for coming! Galloping insomnia is the pits, however, so I will completely understand if sleep gets in the way.

Unfortunately the sore throat has turned into almost-no-voice today, but I'll nurse it along and see if it improves before tomorrow!
