Death and Taxis

(usual disclaimers apply; single large image behind the cut, the fluffhouse server is flaky at the moment (as was the case with the last post, now hopefully back up).

NB also: in between starting this and finishing it, it was established that:
a) Yes, there was a mouse in our kitchen, but
b) it went a little too close to the cat in our kitchen.
hence the whole matter is somewhat moot. :/

I've always wondered about Dave's Disco Taxi, too. Whether people book the disco taxi, or if it just sometimes arrives?

Like those taxis the maffia send, where you end up a tunnel support on the Jubliee Line extension? Are there giant-afro'ed disco overlords in a secret mirror-clad underground lair who decide one day: "send the disco taxi", perhaps by projecting a giant glitterball into the sky?

That's interesting -- I think the one that went past me was Alan's Disco taxi. Which raises the slightly scary prospect of there being >1 disco taxi in the country.

Although the rest of your comment makes me think of families hiding their young and hip children in the basement when the moon is full and glittery, for fear of the disco taxi coming round and taking them off to be dance minions....

I so want to go to Boogie Sunderland.

Tangentially, there was a prog rock group in the seventies called Hatfield and the North. (I'm not familiar with what they sounded like, though.)

Here via [info]jereeza, but a fellow Cantabridgian - I've had the disco taxi too, coming back from the Junction! Given that the Disco Taxi is literally a taxi full of disco, and given the name of the major cab company in question, I guess we were just both lucky they didn't take their moniker seriously and send one driven by a dangerous carnivore.

All this (in combination with a recent excess of Jasper Fforde) makes me wonder if there's a gap in the market for a Shakespeare Taxi, one wherein the passengers may request of the driver any speech from any of his plays. Perhaps there would be copies of the Complete Works so that passengers could take other parts in the scene. Perhaps this would make a killing among American tourists in Stratford. One might call it BardCab.

Oh, god, I live just down the road a piece from Stratford, Ontario (which is home to a huge theatre festival, one of the biggest of its kind in North America), and I could so see them doing that there, since the entire town has a bad case of the thematic quaints.

I got here from [info]marnanel's link. I've been swapping this around quite a bit.

The postscript reminds me of something that a friend of mine said once. We were staying at another friend's house, and there was a cricket in the guest room. It finally shut up and we were able to go to sleep. In the morning, I remarked that the cricket had shut up quite providentially, and my friend said, very ingenuously, "It seems to have found its way beneath my shooooe..."
