So, er...
MEN WHO SING!

...our housewarming Beggar's Opera (Saturday December 2, afternoon (probably 2:30ish),in Cambridge, music is not difficult and is all online as pdfs and mp3s here, is also v. good & has choruses of ruffians & whores) is a little short of you at the moment.
Chance to partake of a Very Large Fish included. And Gin. More Women who Sing also a thoroughly good thing. Also small furry beasties from Alpha Centuri who sing. Does anyone have any amiable singers hiding under the bed?

In order for this not to be the spammiest entry in spammytown ever, here is a work-related image.

I filled in your poll, but quite late, so you might have missed it. At any rate, I've not received any further communication on the topic.

Aha! I had indeed not noticed. What say you to potentially singing Filch/Matt of the Mint (different scores differ on who is singing the songs, so I've assumed they're basically the same person)?

That sounds great, I think, not knowing the work. Where do you recommend I look for a score? Any particular edition?

I've scanned a score, which is up on the fluffhouse server here. If you want a proper paper copy I'd just look in a second-hand music store -- there's a particular edition of which there seems to be at least one copy in evey such store I've seen, and that's the one I have.

If I can't find anyone for Lockit I may possibly ask you to do Lockit as well, as Filch/M o' M has little to do at the end of the play and Lockit has nothing to do at the start - is that OK? I am still a gentleman short....

I don't have access to printing facilities, I'm afraid.

Very happy to do whatever is required.

I've managed to download the libretto and one of the songs. I'm a bit worried because the song I've downloaded looks a bit high. I don't mind singing a couple of Gs, but if the other songs are equally high, I fear that I may not be the man you need. I appreciate that I should have regarded the score before I agreed to sing it: for some reason issues of range slipped my mind at the time.

I'm also a bit worried that I haven't yet managed to acquire a score. I may need a quarter of an hour or so to familiarise (sp?) myself with my notes before the sing-through, if, as seems likely, I don't manage to find any time to do so beforehand. Will that be a problem?

Sorry to be awkward. I probably won't read e-mail until after the sing-through, so if you need to contact me, perhaps you could call me on 07779 146937. Thanks.

Have left voicemail (in case you read this first -- I'm not reading LJ at work at the moment so the times I reply to messages left here are a little odd!)

Are men who sing alto OK?

Men who sing alto are great -- In fact I have a sneaking suspicion going from the recordings I have that it's entirely appropriate for, say, a man who sings alto to do Mrs. Peachum. :)

Camp Drag Role No. 837... oh well :)

See you this weekend - we'll talk more about it then!

Nyeees -- I should have figured it might be one of the hazards of singing countertenor :)

See you in Oxford!

Absolutely! But they may get sung at.

I've left a comment on the other post... Since it's screened, I find myself unable to add, though, that I'd be very happy to share accompaniment duties -- I don't get to accompany very often, and it's something I love doing (and am actually faintly competent at!)

Yes, please, that would be great, especially if I end up filling in all the missing male singing parts!

I know a couple of altos who might be interested, if you don't mind completely random people turning up? (coughingbear and frankie_ecap)

At least, they sounded interested yesterday when I was trying to scrounge an 18th century corset and had to explain why...

Completely random people are more than welcome (would they like to be ruffians and whores? there are a few ruffians and whores left). All I need now is one more gentleman....
